The Kanata Smackdown - Burmashave Bump And GrindTrustOnlyMulder at 10:52 am on January 19, 2006

Sub-Category: Election 2006
This morning I arrived for a Burmashave (as an unpaid volunteer!!) at the Kanata Park n Ride with my local CPC Candidate (and MP) Gordon O'Connor. I glanced across the road and there was Isabel Metcalfe, the local Liberal candidate, by her lonesome from what I could see, handing out Liberal literature to those getting on and off the bus.
There was a dozen or more of us from Gordon's campaign, and I had only met three or four before. There were 8 or so of us waving signs on all the corners of the mainstreet and another bunch handing out CPC literature. This just gives an indication of what is making this CPC campaign such a success. Good honest hardworking people out there in the trenches.
I read an article the other day (but forgot the link) about how the Liberal candidates office in the Pontiac was closed or empty, and how Cannons CPC office was alive, lit up with a half dozen or dozen people working away.
We had 100's of horns honking in support and dozens of thumbs up. (we got one finger and one shake his head in disgust). But one CPC supporter got a hug in a Kodak moment that I missed, which put us ahead by a mile. One passerby told us we were going to cause an accident with all the sign waving. I thanked him for the advice and then thought he must have been a Liberal because a pro union NDPer wouldn't slam sign waving with all them protests and striking unions supporting them. He must have been the same kind of person who snarls at the boys or girls soccer team for getting people into the charity carwash at the corner gas, so their team can go on a road trip to the Robbie Tournament in Toronto.
One last note on Burmashaves: It is not easy swapping hands when you have a sign in one and a Timmy's extra large double double in the other.
Score:3 Screw It Up A Notch | Screw It Down A Notch
